Razor is a designer lighting collection by Tonone in which curved textured glass takes centre stage. Designed by Anton de Groof, the collection is inspired by the razor shell, a slender seashell commonly found along the Dutch coast. The soft, elongated curve of this shell forms the starting point for the flowing lines of the glass.
The texture of the glass refers to the ever changing appearance of the sea. Wind, light and movement make the water look different every time. This interplay of rhythm and reflection is reflected in the surface of Razor. During the day, the texture is visible as part of the design. When the lamp is switched on, the glass gains even more depth.
The curved glass captures and diffuses the light in a soft way. This creates warm nuances, subtle shadows and reflections throughout the space. Even when Razor is switched off, the lamp remains a decorative lighting object with a distinctive shape.
Curved textured glass and modern LED technology
The glass used for Razor is produced using a traditional rolling method. This technique gives the surface a lively texture and a subtle vintage character. The glass is then carefully curved, allowing the soft shape of the shell to be reflected in every lamp.
